IBSA - Failures During Investigations - 27th July 2019

As I listen to, or read, the stories of those who have been abused by non-consensual Image Sharing #IBSA #ImageBasedSexualAbuse #revengeporn crimes, I find myself continuously appalled by what appears to be varying degrees of incompetence during the investigation process. Whether these failings are mild or extraordinary, they make a difference as to whether a perpetrator can be successfully prosecuted.

I 100% believe, probably now more so than ever, as a result of failings within my own investigation, that these failures are (in part) to blame for the disparity that we see in the numbers of reported cases to those that are successfully prosecuted.

It’s truly sickening that, for the most part, perpetrators of these crimes are effectively allowed to ‘walk’ and continue to inflict their heinous acts on other victims AND on a repetitive basis. It seems that no one is holding our Police forces to task over these poor results. In fact, the last figures released by the Ministry of Justice were in 2018!

This is a sad discovery for me, it’s a discovery whereby which I have lost faith in those who are supposed to protect the population….and all because my own investigation failed on two seemingly basic (to me in any respect) police fundamentals.

Perhaps one day representatives from our UK Police forces will see the value in listening to, and attending, seminars led by #IBSA victims, in order to improve and learn. Until that day happens, you’ll have to excuse my loss of faith (for now) in the UK judicial system and those who police our laws.
