A year ago, I made a leap of faith that paved the way for me to raise awareness about #IBSA #revengeporn within the #LGBTQ community. It also gave me the opportunity to publicly address a number of demons that had plagued my life, and to re-establish a sense of power over a non-consensual invasion of my privacy, that had been so destructive.
In October 2019 I took another leap of faith and spoke publicly about my experience, it was the first time that a male #LGBTQ victim has spoken to an audience about these crimes. It’s been exciting to publicly lend my support to the University of Birmingham’s study on #ImageBasedSexualAbuse within the #LGBTQ community. This survey is so incredibly important, and I would urge anyone with an experience they feel they can share to participate in that study. It’s how we change the future for our community, and how we save a life from being so hurtfully affected by these crimes in the future buff.ly/35ZB4ys
I continue to push the message that the #LGBTQ community continues to be the most ‘at risk' group with emphasis that these crimes are NOT gender exclusive. I figure others will catch onto it eventually!
As a male survivor of an Image Abuse crime, I hope that other men (irrespective of sexuality) feel that they are able to step forward and seek the help and support that they need. Men should NEVER feel that a sexually abusive, or violent situation should be belittled by society based bullsh*t. A lot of that same bullsh*t also dictates how society views the sexual practices of each of the letters within the diverse #LGBTQ rainbow. Normality is not for us to judge, normality is whatever you want it to be.
All abuse crimes, irrespective of gender or sexuality, are physically and mentally damaging. It’s as simple as that, period. There can be no divisions or divides. Thank you for sticking around to see the first 12 months, friends and followers. These are really difficult times for us all, but no matter what the odds you’ve got to always try your best…. rather than not try at all
